![]() It benefits the American people," he added. "We think, and so does the Congress, that competition leads to better, more reliable outcomes. So here it is," Nelson said during a press conference on Tuesday. ![]() NASA Administrator Bill Nelson did not specify how much the program would cost as the budget is pending the release of President Joe Biden's proposal for the 2023 fiscal year next week. Blue Origin accused NASA of eliminating the element of competition on the project by selecting a single company instead of two companies to work side-by-side. When that failed, Jeff Bezos' space venture sued NASA in federal court in August, dubbing the agency's decision to choose SpaceX as the sole winner of the lunar lander contract "unfair" and an example of favoritism. The agency backtracked on the offer in April, saying a lack of funding had limited NASA to selecting one company - a decision that Blue Origin took to court.īlue Origin attempted to get NASA to withdraw its decision and took the issue to the Government Accountability Office. NASA initially began the program in 2019 and said it was looking to hire two companies to provide spacecrafts that could transport astronauts from lunar orbit to the moon. "We will continue to work with NASA to achieve the United States' goal to return to the Moon as soon as possible."ĬNBC's Michael Sheetz was the first to report Blue Origin's announcement. This card showcases my favorite custom ability: Flux. What is most important about both of these cards is that neither of them are able to simply kill any creature each turn, or even for a cost. Here are cards I am very proud of: My very first card! And a nice first one too, at least in my opinion. This makes Royal great for warding off attackers and threatening things like Birds of Paradise or Noble Hierarch. Being able to kill any tapped creature you choose means that if an opponent attacks or uses a tap ability, unless it has vigilance, indestructible or hexproof, you get to kill it. A 1/1 is nothing special, but that ability is potent. Royal Assassin is squishier and will only ever really be used for its ability. Also, which forcing a sacrifice is more powerful than targeted destruction because it gets around hexproof and indestructible, if an opponent has multiple creatures they can choose to sacrifice, say, the Ornithopter and not the Ulamog. Heroic isn't a great mechanic because if you want to use it you really have to build around it. ![]() To even trigger it, you have to cast a spell that targets him. His assassin tool, however, is a bit more of a shotgun to Royal's sniper. ![]() He gets enough power to be a damage threat, his deathtouch makes him scary to block or as a blocker and he actually has two toughness. ![]() Most players are happy to shuck 2 or 4 life away in order to cast a card that would normally be 3cmc with multiple colored mana sources for but they are pretty different conceptually. At first glance this would seem more dangerous than other costs but in practicality, it's actually almost not a threat. While it can require you to pay the cost with a source of colored mana, phyrexian mana lets you pay 2 life in order to cover that requirement instead. Next up is phyrexian mana, easier to play than both colored and hybrid mana. It is easier than colored mana because you have the option of paying multiple colors to satisfy the requirement. The next most difficult type of mana to play is hybrid mana. That is why cards that cost two different types of colored mana generally provide more value than ones that only require one, cards that cost three different types of colored mana provide more value than two, etc. The most difficult type of mana to pay for is colored mana. A spell's mana cost breaks down even further into colorless mana, colored mana (including the new mana), hybrid mana and phyrexian (shock) mana. Now any reasonable person following along would immediately ask themselves, what is cost and what is value? Costs Most commonly in MTG, cost is mana required to pay a spell. How many colored mana symbols do I need? Is it more blue or black? What about hybrid or phyrexian mana? And then how much colorless mana on top of that? Should it be 2? 3? If I post it at 2 people might say this is overpowered but if I post it at 3 they might say it is underpowered! What the heck should I do? And how much should this ability cost?!" Well, as some of you have probably seen from many of my long, long, long-winded explanations that pop up in the comments of a lot of cards, I have a thing for balance and playability and have some advice and guidelines for helping my fellow cardsmiths make cards fair in addition to awesome.Ī balanced card is one that has a reasonable value/cost ratio. Maybe blue/black? Ok so it needs blue and black. With a gasp, you click the field and start thinking, "This card is black. Something that keeps many good cardsmiths awake at night. Something you've completely forgotten about. But then, to your horror, you see an empty field in the design form. Congratulations, you're well on your way to making good card. ![]() ![]() The CPU usage percentages in Pro Tools and the Atmos Production Suite are consistently equal or lower than with my old system. The simple answer is GREAT! I have done a handful of mixes on the new system, including an Atmos session with 300+ voices and the Atmos Production Suite running on the same system. So, I traded in my Avid HD Native and Blackmagic Intensity Pro PCIe Cards for an Avid HD Native Thunderbolt and Blackmagic Mini Monitor along with a USB-C to HDMI dongle for my second monitor and a USB hub for connecting hard drives and iLoks. While conceptually this seemed like the perfect solution, reading Jamey Scott’s Mac Mini Meltdown article here on Pro Tools Expert, I started to be more than a little concerned about the system overheating in the rack. Initially, I was looking at going with a Sonnet xMac Mini Server rack, which would allow me to mount the Mac Mini and both PCIe cards in a 1RU rack enclosure! In my Mac Pro, I had an Avid HD Native and Blackmagic Intensity Pro PCIe cards as well as four internal hard drives. So, to save spending $1000 to upgrade to 64GB of RAM from Apple, instead, I ordered 64GB of comparable RAM from Samsung on Amazon for around $250! Where Do I Put Everything?īy far the biggest limitation when migrating from the Mac Pro to the Mac mini was expansion. Unlike the previous generation of Mac minis, the 2020 (and 2018) allow for the RAM to be un-officially user upgraded. ![]() I also needed a system that would run Pro Tools Ultimate plus the Dolby Atmos Production Suite, so opted for the top-of-the-line 3.2GHz 6-core Intel Core i7 and with the 2020 refresh came with a 512GB SSD. This really left one choice: A 2020 Mac mini. ![]() I could have picked up a “Trashcan” Mac Pro in my budget but I really wanted to go with a new system with 3 years of worry-free coverage from Apple via AppleCare+. While a brand new 2019 Mac Pro 7,1 would have been a logical replacement for my old cheese-grater, it was completely out of my budget for this unexpected upgrade, especially with the uncertainty 2020 has brought to our industry. At this point, I needed to decide between fixing a decade-old computer or looking for a new system. It was down to either the logic board or processor tray. I swapped an older system drive build, swapped the RAM, graphics card and even the power supply with no luck. I spent the better part of the day trying everything to get it working again. I had started spec-ing out an upgraded graphics car from when the unthinkable happened: I sat down to work one day, pressed the power button on the Mac Pro, entered my password and it promptly shut down. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you are looking for a more expanded article including what kinds of images to add, what dimensions to use, and what the advantages of various approaches are read our email signature image guide.
